Goodbye to my Power Macintosh 4400/160, I never ever knew you!

My habit of snapping up local retro computing bargains is well known. This one something I saw advertised many years ago by a bloke who was cleaning out his attic.

When I turned up on his doorstep to pick it up I remember he found it quite odd that someone would have any use for this obsolete piece of kit.

I wasn’t really exposed to Macs growing up, so I’ve always held a fascination with the systems. I purchased this with plans to clean it up and explore the software library (ideally the games if they existed)

What actually happened was that I stored it in my garage to wait until I had the time to dedicate to that restoration project…

Many years passed and I forced myself to accept that it would always be quite low on my projects list. So after some internal debate, I decided to list it on eBay.

Doing so gave me the excuse to fire it up, as I’d never even checked that it worked when I first picked it up.

Thankfully the old beast still had some life left in it and booted into the desktop fairly quickly and painlessly.

Now that I’ve listed it on eBay and already got some interested bites I feel a little conflicted. Am I going to regret letting this system go in years to come?

Perhaps I will - however I’ve already got plenty of other great retro systems that I feel privileged to have collected over the years. If this is able to bring joy to someone else now, rather than sitting in my garage then that’s a good move overall.
